Um ... Glad I didn't use TurboTax

A cubemate here has been on the phone for the last hour with the folks at TurboTax about the stimulus check.

The end result is this ...

If you filed with TurboTax (federal) and had your refund direct deposited, you may or may not get your stimulus right away. If you paid with a credit card, the direct depositing will have already been done. If you had them take the filing fee out of your refund, it's not considered direct depositing (it's actually a refund anticipation loan, though they don't tell you that!). You'll get a paper check mailed out with the rest of the country.

This cubemate is freaking out. She'd made arrangements to pay off a whole bunch of things based on the direct deposit, and now she finds the check won't be mailed out until the last week of June.

Glad I don't trust the IRS for facts and dates.

Bummer. I guess the way I've been looking at the stimulus thing all along is that "Maybe it'll happen. Maybe we'll get one. That would be nice. If one shows up in the mail, then we'll know we're getting one."

Especially since our tax accountant had us file an extension instead of a return, I'm guessing that would delay the stimulus check even longer.

So I'm just pretending it doesn't exist. Until I'm holding it and I know it does.

It depends ... Do you owe money now? If so, then they'll apply it to that. If not, then you'll get it.

I still don't know how this will affect my return next year. I've heard about 50 different answers so far.

Our accountant put down on the extension form that we'll get a refund of about $100. I think that he runs prelim numbers for his clients, and if they owe, they go to the top of the pile for getting done by April 15. Because when you file for an extension, you don't have to pay a late fee, but you still pay interest. And I'd be a wee bit annoyed if we had to pay interest because he didn't get our taxes done when we had the info to him by mid-March (although, to be fair, I should get him the stuff earlier -- we had some issues pulling teeth getting some W2's from a few employers).

I'm just glad I don't attempt to pay things off before I actually have the cash in hand. (Had to learn this the hard way, but I've learned it *well*.)

Yeah, I was on hold with the IRS for almost 20 minutes trying to find out where my deposit was. I made the same mistake with Turbo Tax. Darn it. :(

lol ... sorry, but it's funny.

Do you have your books ready for Charlaine? She'll be here Thursday (tomorrow) night!

I've found the complete Shakespeare book set in paperback and will be bringing it with the Sookie series (books and stories).
Gosh, I can't wait!

Yeah, it is pretty funny. I sure could use the money, though.

Oh, yes! I'm soooo excited. It's like meeting a rock star. :D I'm just bringing my two favorite Sookie books, Dead in Dallas and Dead to the World. I'm also bringing my camera and full well plan on suggesting to her that Lydia is an awesome name for a vampire. :)

You should say hello. I'll be wearing my blue cardigan with giant blue shell earrings. :) What time are you getting there?

I'll be leaving after work @ 5, but with the way traffic is (read: insane) on Center during rush hour, it may well be 6:30 by the time I get there. It starts at 7.

I've got two bags ... One is completely full, the other is half full.

That's books 4-8 of Sookie in hardcover, books 1-4 in paperback (yep, 2 copies of #4 .. I found it in HC recently), books 1-5 of the Shakespeare series in paperback, the books with short stories (Powers of Detection, Bite, Night's Edge, etc), and one of her early non-series books.

And yep, got my camera ... and, more importantly, fresh spare batteries for the camera. It's one of my laws of life ... If you bring extra batteries, you'll be fine. If you don't, you'll find the camera only takes one or two pix then the batteries inside die, even if they're brand new.
